It’s been a super-busy month for KPBA. This year we co-hosted the Alaska State Home Building Association’s “Build AK 2019” Conference at Land’s End Resort in Homer October 16-18. This was a wonderful opportunity for contractors, engineers, architects and real estate licensees to obtain continuing education credits for their licensure.
The conference had good attendance and fantastic weather. Our attendees came from all over Alaska and some even came from the lower-48! Governor Dunleavy flew in for an hour just to speak with our attendees. If you weren’t able to attend, that’s okay….we recorded it! (Excuse our bouncy recording….we’re still learning the tips/tricks of video).
Other guest visitors included Representative Sarah Vance of Homer, Representative Sharon Jackson of Eagle River, and Jan Knutson of the Homer Chamber and Visitor Center.
We’d like to thank our guests and attendees for making this event a success. Not only were the classes well-attended, but the functions were as well. Our 2020 ASHBA Board of Directors were installed at the banquet the last night there by Eugene Graf IV from NAHB. Victor Banaszak from Juneau is our upcoming ASHBA President. Richard Carr pinned Victor’s lapel and provided a wonderful tribute to all our members and encouragement for our upcoming new president.
KPBA held our final open-mic night last Thursday and is looking forward to our upcoming “Kenai’s Got Talent” Show November 5th, 7PM, at the KCHS Auditorium. We have 15 youth performances scheduled to compete for the grand prize of $500, and Forever Dance Alaska coming in for a wonderful intermission show. Don’t miss out on this family-friendly, community event sponsored by Builders Choice. We’d like to extend a huge “THANK YOU!!!” to those that have helped with our open mic nights throughout the year to make this possible:
The Reading Corner
Virgil Lee Gattenby
And our committee members: Elizabeth Ward, Alan Kasdorf, Megan Weaver, Tim Elder and Nick Lee.
We had our October Member Meeting this week and while it wasn’t as well-attended as we’d hope (the weather made for a “keep building” day for many of our members), we were pleased with our guest speakers and the value they brought to the meeting. If you weren’t able to attend, that’s okay; we’ve posted meeting highlights and our October newsletter online for your reading pleasure!
We also had an awesome guest speaker, Emily Rickman from Junior Achievement of Alaska. Check out her presentation!
Don’t forget our Annual Banquet/Christmas Fundraiser is coming up November 21st at Kenai Catering. We are accepting donations and sponsorships for the event. Proceeds go to local charity. Watch your email (and junk mail folder) for more information on this.
Have a safe and happy Halloween!
